Alberta Enterprise Corporation invests US$10 million into Flying Fish’s latest AI fund

AEC’s second investment into Flying Fish Ventures continues growth support for Alberta startups with AI at their core.

EDMONTON, July 21, 2026 – Alberta Enterprise Corporation (AEC) today announced an investment of US$10 million into Flying Fish Fund III to give early stage Alberta AI startups access to the seed-stage capital and specialized AI expertise required for growth.

Flying Fish is a Seattle-based venture capital firm actively investing in next generation leaders in North America and the UK who are building companies with AI at their core to serve multiple industries. Alberta investments to date include Edmonton-founded RLCore and Artificial Agency. AEC invested in Flying Fish’s second fund in 2022, and is returning as an investor in Fund III. Tiffany Linke-Boyko is Flying Fish’s principal in Edmonton.

For nearly a decade, Flying Fish has invested in AI development and business growth, including supporting Google DeepMind researchers with origins in Edmonton. That sustained proximity to AI’s frontiers has cultivated a distinctive point of view. “While large language models dominate today’s conversation, we don’t see them as the ultimate path forward,” says Frank Chang, Co-founder and Managing Director of Flying Fish. “We believe superintelligence will emerge from reinforcement learning, where AI systems learn through their own trial and error, generating knowledge that ultimately outpaces human capability.”

Flying Fish’s interest in companies advancing reinforcement learning has led to a close working relationship with the Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute (Amii), one of the world’s leading centres for AI research. Amii is home to Richard Sutton, a pioneering researcher widely considered one of the founders of modern reinforcement learning.
