Opportunity Overview
The Senior Accountant will play a crucial role in the success of the organization as a whole. As a direct report to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), this role is responsible for the investment and fund accounting and the preparation of many of the key company financial documents. As the Senior Accountant will be involved with most of the day-to-day accounting activities of the organization, strong technical and analytic skills are essential. The perfect candidate will have a drive for results and take pride in their critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. The Senior Accountant will also be responsible for the maintenance and collection of important financial data that will help support both internal and external stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Work with the Investment Team to ensure investment activities are recorded appropriately to meet accounting and reporting requirements.
- Take ownership of the creation and preparation of financial reporting, financial statements, and other finance/budget related requests
- General operational accounting duties including preparation of investment journal entries
- Work with management in the production of the annual budget and forecast
- Prepare working papers necessary for internal and external audit when required
- Conduct roll-over of year-end financial reports and documents
- Preparation and management of key performance and risk metric data
- Analyze, document and monitor financial processes and internal controls
- Proactively identify and communicate potential controls and process improvements to the CFO
- Provide accurate and timely information to internal and external stakeholders
- Provide any required assistance training and onboarding new finance team members at Alberta Enterprise
- Work effectively individually as well as with Alberta Enterprise team members
- Provide back-up to Accountant
- Support team members with ad-hoc duties as required

Requirements
- 4+ years of accounting or corporate finance experience
- Excellent technical knowledge of operational accounting and fund accounting
- Understanding and experience with fund valuation and fair value adjustments
- Familiarity with fund management regulatory requirements
- Strong technical ability using Excel, accounting solutions, and other applicable database applications
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Team-first mindset
- Familiarity with differing accounting standards (i.e., PSAB, IFRS, GAAP, ASPE)
- Strong time and work management skills
Education and Designation
- Professional accounting designation recognized in Canada (CPA or Legacy Designations)
- University Business degree – related field such as Finance and Accounting
- Direct experience in fund accounting is considered an asset
