Alberta Enterprise Corporation (AEC) invests in Venture Capital funds that focus on technology innovation. We invest on standard industry terms and conditions and require the fund to have a presence in Alberta. In addition, we target fund managers with partners and networks extending well beyond Alberta.

Structural Requirements of Our
Target Investments

Fund size and structure

  • Venture capital limited partnership
  • Preferred minimum fund size $50 million
  • Standard General Partner management fees
  • Standard terms and conditions

Management

  • Minimum two managing partners
  • Must establish or maintain a full-time senior staff presence in Alberta
  • Venture capital or private equity fund management experience
  • Operational experience in early stage technology firms
  • Personal networks in targeted industries
  • Demonstrated deal flow and track record

Alberta Micro Fund Investments

Above criteria apply, with the following adjustments:

  • Firm must be headquartered in Alberta for the life of the fund
  • There must be at least two Partners in the firm
  • At least one of the partners must be located in Alberta, as well as the majority of staff
  • Managing partners must contribute a combined minimum of 1.5 FTE of their business time to the fund
  • Minimum fund size $25 million
  • Early-stage investment focus
