Alberta Enterprise Corporation (AEC) was created to build a local Venture Capital industry capable of providing the capital necessary to support the growth and success of knowledge-based companies in Alberta.
AEC invests as a Limited Partner in technology Venture Capital funds that have (or plan to establish) a presence in the province, staffed by at least one senior level investment professional.
By investing in VC funds that finance early–stage, technology start-ups in Alberta, we create access to a much larger pool of capital than the $350 million Alberta Enterprise Fund, while also creating access to external markets and the expertise of these funds.
We target three types of funds for investment:
AEC only invests in funds that complement the available deal flow in the province. A deal flow study to understand the detailed composition of Alberta’s tech industry by industry and sector is periodically conducted by AEC. We will continue to make new fund investments to match the sector and stage of our VC funds to the available deal flow in Alberta.
