Alberta Enterprise invests in seed and venture capital funds that focus on technology innovation. We invest on standard industry terms and conditions, and require the fund to have a full-time presence in Alberta. In addition, we target fund managers with partners and network extending well beyond Alberta.
Fund size and structure
- Venture capital limited partnership
- Preferred minimum fund size $50 million

Management
- Minimum two managing partners
- Venture capital or private equity fund management experience
- Operational experience in early stage technology firms
- Personal networks in targeted industries
- Demonstrated deal flow and track record
Alberta Micro Fund Investments
Above criteria apply, with the following adjustments:
- AEC investment anchors emerging managers establishing a long-term presence in Alberta.
- Firm must be headquartered in Alberta for the life of the fund (minimum one partner and majority of staff located in Alberta) .
- Minimum fund size $25 million ($10 million closed and $5 million from AEC).
- At least two partners, contributing a combined minimum of 1.5 FTE of their business time to the fund.
- Early-stage investment focus.
